B&W Andy.jpg

Andrew Scott Wills is a seasoned Nashville songwriter whose deep-rooted passion for American history and the rugged frontier lifestyle led him to create Hawken Horse—a musical project that fuses storytelling with the spirit of the early American wilderness. After penning hits for artists like Jerrod Niemann and Stephanie Quayle, Wills sought a more personal and fulfilling creative path. Inspired during a 14-hour road trip from Tennessee to Wisconsin, he envisioned Hawken Horse as a blend of his love for music and frontier history. The project’s name pays homage to the essential tools of a mountain man: the Hawken rifle and a trusty horse .

Hawken Horse’s music delves into the lives of iconic figures such as Davy Crockett, John Colter, and Calamity Jane, capturing the essence of exploration, independence, and survival that defined the American frontier. The ambitious double album “Hammered & Hewn” stands as a testament to Wills’ dedication, offering 28 tracks that chronicle North American history from 1765 to 1887 . Through Hawken Horse, Wills invites listeners on a journey through time, illuminating the rugged beauty and complex narratives of America’s past with authenticity and heartfelt storytelling.
